What COPRAR Means

COPRAR (Container Status Message) is a UN/EDIFACT standard message type used globally by terminals, shipping lines, and ports to communicate container status updates. These messages are sent automatically when container status changes.

Each COPRAR message contains:

• Container number (RFF+BM segment)
• Status code (STS segment) indicating availability
• Terminal location (LOC segment)
• Customs release date (DTM+36 segment)
• Vessel ETA (DTM+132 segment)

Status code 5 means "Ready for Pickup" - this is what operations teams need to identify quickly.

Why Terminals Send Multiple COPRARs

Terminals send COPRAR messages throughout a container's lifecycle:

• When a container arrives at the terminal (status: Loaded)
• When customs clearance is completed (status: Released)
• When the container becomes available for pickup (status: Ready for Pickup)
• When holds are placed or removed
