Gate-In vs Gate-Out: What's the Difference?
CODECO messages track two critical container movements at terminals:
Gate-In: The container entered the terminal. It's now in the terminal's custody but not yet available for pickup.
Gate-Out: The container left the terminal. It's physically available for delivery and ready for transport.
For logistics teams, Gate-Out is the signal that matters most. When you see Gate-Out in a CODECO message, it means the container has cleared the terminal and is ready for pickup.
Why Gate-Out Confirmation Matters for Transport
Gate-Out confirmation is critical for several reasons:
Dispatch timing: You can confidently dispatch drivers knowing the container has physically left the terminal
Terminal wait times: Avoid sending drivers to terminals where containers haven't gated out yet
Delivery scheduling: Plan delivery routes based on confirmed gate-out status
Demurrage prevention: Identify containers that are ready but haven't been picked up
Without gate-out confirmation, transport teams risk sending drivers to terminals unnecessarily, wasting time and fuel, or missing containers that are actually ready.
How ContainerReady Reads CODECO Automatically
ContainerReady automatically detects CODECO messages and extracts:
Container number from EQD segments
Gate-In date and time from DTM segments
Gate-Out date and time from DTM segments
Terminal location from LOC segments
The tool then maps Gate-Out events to "Ready for Pickup" status, giving you an instant dashboard of containers that have actually left the terminal and are available for delivery.
No more manually searching through CODECO messages for gate-out confirmations. ContainerReady does it in seconds.
